Paris Saint Germain forward, Lionel Messi, is set to be out of action for the second time as PSG file out against Montpellier in the French Ligue One on Saturday, September 25, 2021. The Argentinean national team captain is nursing a knee injury but PSG coach, Mauricio Pochettino, is hopeful that his star player will be back on time for PSG’s tough UEFA Champions League clash against Manchester City on Tuesday, September 28.
In a press conference, Pochettino said: “Hopefully everything will be ok and he will be back with us. We hope he can be there. We need to be cautious and see how things evolve in the coming days.”
Messi was a 76th minute substitute in last weekend’s narrow 2-1 win over Lyon in the Ligue One as fans and critics questioned his refusal to return a handshake from Pochettino on the touchline. It would only emerge later that the 2021 Copa America winner was subbed due to the injury.
Since his summer move to PSG, Messi has featured just thrice for the Parisian club. PSG will be looking towards their star man (if he recovers) on Tuesday in what will be a repeat of last season’s Champions League semi-final.
