The Everton of England midfielder is furious at the match officials for failing to award Ademola Lookman’s strike in the first half.
Super Eagles of Nigeria midfielder, Alex Iwobi, has blamed poor officiating as the reason behind Nigeria’s loss to Algeria in an international friendly on the night of Tuesday, September 27, 2022. Nigeria lost 2-1 to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations champions after a long range shot from Youcef Atal hit the back of the net with 29 minutes left to play at the Miloud Hadefi Stadium, Oran.
Nigeria took the lead through a Terem Moffi strike in the ninth minute of the game and scored another goal that was wrongly disallowed by the match officials before awarding Algeria a controversial penalty in the 40th minute which was converted by Manchester City star, Riyad Mahrez. Uzoho could not stop Atal’s 61st minute strike to gift the home side the win.
Iwobi expressed displeasure at centre referee, Mehrez Malki, and his crew over their failure to award Nigeria a second goal scored by Ademola Lookman which could have put the three-time African champions ahead with 2 goals and changed the course of the game via a tweet.
Nigeria will confront Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal in another friendly game on November 17, 2022.
