The Napoli man has opted to rest due to an injury.
SSC Napoli of Italy and Super Eagles of Nigeria striker, Victor Osimhen, has been ruled out of Nigeria’s international friendly game against Portugal scheduled to hold on Thursday, November 16, 2022.
A statement made public by the Super Eagles media officer, Babafemi Raji, disclosed that the former Lille OSC of France striker pulled out of the game due to an injury sustained in Napoli’s 3-2 Serie A win against Udinese on Saturday, November 12, 2022.
Babafemi Raji said:
“Osimhen is injured…Yes, he played his team’s last game, but Napoli medics have sent MRI (scans) to the team. He will now undergo active rest for 15 days’’
Critics questioned Osimhen’s decision to pull out of the friendly, insisting that it is a deliberate act, but Raji dismissed the claims, noting that:
“Osimhen is proud to play for the country right from his days with the youth team…He’s like any Nigerian who wants to play for his country.’’
Jose Peseiro’s Super Eagles will be hoping to beat a Portuguese side captained by Cristiano Ronaldo on Thursday night by 7:45pm (WAT).
