Davido and Erigga have been engaged in a war of words
Davido and Erigga have sparked fresh debate online over privilege, hard work and success in Nigeria’s music industry.
Afrobeats star Davido has slammed rapper Erigga after the latter posted a message celebrating artists who built their careers from nothing, a post many fans read as a subtle dig at musicians from privileged backgrounds.
Erigga’s post, praising self-made musicians, read:
“Shoutout to all the musicians who don’t come from family money and had to grind for every single dollar they earn.”
The message struck a nerve for Davido, whose ties to a wealthy family have long trailed him in public conversation and online debate.
He wasted no time responding, taking to social media with a sharp rebuttal:
“No be we say make your pops no guard o. Shoutout to the ones that came from family money and still grind to the top, imbecile,” Davido wrote.

Not done there, he followed up with a second post dismissing Erigga’s original message outright:
“Comot here with that your useless motivation.”
The singer went further, turning the conversation back on the very idea of glorifying hardship, asking:
“Deep down who like poverty?”
In a later post, Davido appeared to signal he was ready to step back from the back-and-forth and from the broader chatter around his wealth and career, with a mix of defiance and humor:
“No worry o I go soon leave their music for una. GO MAKE MY BILLIONS… then that shit gonna be boring.”
As of this report, Erigga has not issued a public response to Davido’s remarks.
Erigga has since responded to Davido’s comments, taking to social media with a pointed reply of his own:
“Big man pikin dey cry say poor men children de hail dem self ??? Motivate your self naw Ambassador of RICH KIDS”
The exchange marks the latest escalation in the online back-and-forth between the two artists.
