Contrary to our report on Sunday which revealed that at least 43 farmers had their throats silt by Boko Haram in the Koshobe village close to Maidugri in Borno State, a statement by the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr Edward Kallon,on Sunday, November 29, during a news conference revealed that at least 110 farmers were killed in what is clearly one of the worst attacks carried out by Boko Haram since their insurgent activities in Nigeria commenced in 2009.
Mr. Edward in an official statement condoled with families of victims and also noted that the UN has received reports suggesting that several women were kidnapped. He went further to describe the attack as ‘’the most violent direct attack against innocent civilians this year,’’ and charged all actors involved to ‘’respect international laws and humanity.’’
We have also received reports that several women may have been kidnapped. I call for their immediate release and return to safety… The incident is the most violent direct attack against innocent civilians this year. I call for the perpetrators of this heinous and senseless act to be brought to justice…I strongly condemn this attack and any act of violence against innocent civilians and I firmly urge all actors on the ground to respect international laws and humanity
Edward Kallon
