After Manchester City’s agonising loss in the Champions League final at the hands of Chelsea FC on Saturday, May 29, 2021, Sergio Aguero’s brother, Mauricio Del Castillo, seemed to be particularly bereaved about the situation regarding his brother in Manchester, and wasted no time in taking shots at Pep Guardiola, Manchester City’s manager, claiming he ‘never wanted’ Aguero at City.
Sergio Aguero came off the bench in the 77th minute, replacing English international, Raheem Sterling, and playing less than 20 minutes of normal time in what was arguably the biggest game of his club career. It was revealed earlier on this year that this season was to be the Argentine’s last at the blue side of Manchester, making the Champions League final his last game for the club.
Pep’s relationship with Aguero came off a rocky start, with him originally preferring Brazilian forward, Gabriel Jesus, who was one of Guardiola’s first transfers upon his arrival as manager in 2016, but following events later in the season, Aguero reclaimed his spot and has been first choice ever since, until his recent injury woes robbed him of regular game time.
Sergio Aguero’s brother recently took to Twitter to comment on the issue once again, writing: “Guardiola never wanted my brother since his arrival at City”, a tweet he later deleted, an action he claimed he took due to the negative feedbacks he received from football fans all over.
He then added however, that he was glad people saw it, and he would happily write it again, when he was quizzed about the situation.
Guardiola casted a very sad figure during the send off organised for Aguero by the club, after his last home game at City, and claimed ‘we cannot replace him’ when he was interviewed during the event.
Aguero, just recently, has been announced as a Barcelona player, signing for the Blaugrana as a free agent.
