Aubameyang fell-out with Arteta in his final months with the Gunners.
Former Arsenal FC captain, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, has aimed a dig at Mikel Arteta, by claiming that the Arsenal manager cannot handle “big players.’’ Aubameyang spent four years at Arsenal which saw him score 92 times in 163 games for the north London club.
The former Gabonese national team captain fell-out with Arteta during his time at the Emirates stadium and was stripped off the captaincy before leaving the club to join Barcelona.
“I remember they (Barcelona) first called my father…We knew the coach, Xavi, then he called me and said there is an opportunity because you have those problems with Arsenal, but if you come you will help us a lot, so I said, ‘okay’…But to manage big characters or big players, he (Arteta) can’t deal with it. He (Arteta) needs some young players, they don’t say anything, they listen.”
Aubameyang
Aubameyang scored 13 times in 24 games during his six-month stay at Barcelona before joining Chelsea in the summer of 2022 due to financial woes which meant the Spanish football heavyweights had to sell some players to register new signings.
The former Borussia Dortmund star has had a bright start to his Chelsea career, netting twice in four games and will confront the Gunners on November 6 in a league clash. Arteta’s Arsenal is top of the league table.
