Burna Boy switched from Christianity to Islam, but is still struggling to find answers/Lionscrib
Burna Boy believes religion is a mechanism.
Singer Burna Boy has shared an intimate look into his ongoing spiritual search, disclosing that he has transitioned from Christianity to Islam while still grappling with existential questions.
Speaking with streamer Plaqueboymax, the Grammy Award-winning musician opened up about his religious evolution, stating, “I grew up as a Christian, but then I converted to Islam and all types,” he said.
“It is like I have studied it all.
“I am still out here trying to find what is really going on.”
The Nigerian-born artist described his Christian upbringing as something predetermined rather than chosen.
“That is what your parents believe in. That is what you are born into,” Burna said.
His subsequent conversion to Islam marked the beginning of a wider spiritual exploration. However, he confessed that his investigations have led to more uncertainty.
“The more I researched, the more confused I got.”
Burna’s Perspective on Religious Control
Rather than settling into a new faith, Burna Boy is questioning the foundations of organized religion itself.

During his conversation with Plaqueboymax, the ‘Last Last’ artist expressed his views: “Religion is a controlled mechanism. In all my research, there is always one scientific fact that goes against every book. Everything comes from the workshop of the sun.
“I believe we are creations. If we are creations, there must be a creator. Everyone is coming up with versions that are confusing me.”
Burna Boy’s Relationship with Religion
Burna Boy has built his career on refusing to conform. His musical output centers on themes of identity, strength, and the pursuit of meaning.
His current spiritual stance reflects these same principles. The artist views religion as an instrument of control.
Beneath the international acclaim and awards is an individual grappling with questions of spiritual meaning.
His religious uncertainty reflects the experience of numerous young Nigerians caught between traditional faith and personal conviction.
Despite exploring both Christianity and Islam, he hasn’t found the answers he’s looking for.
His candid statement reveals the weariness of someone perpetually seeking truth amid conflicting narratives.
Rather than indicating a lack of faith, Burna’s confusion stems from the cacophony of religious teachings each claiming absolute truth.
This search for meaning permeates his creative work. Songs like “Level Up (Twice As Tall),” “Destiny,” and “Common Person” contain spiritual themes, with Burna frequently employing music as a form of self-reflection.
Music serves as his medium for working through the complexities of belief, celebrity, and human existence.
While most celebrities project confidence or curated spiritual messages, Burna Boy acknowledges his uncertainty openly.
This vulnerability is what makes his confession so compelling.
