Asake hit the spotlight in 2022/Deezer
Five years after Spotify’s entry into the Nigerian market, Afrobeats superstar Asake has emerged as the platform’s most-streamed artist in the country.
To mark its fifth anniversary in Nigeria, Spotify has unveiled the top five most-streamed artists since its 2021 launch in the country.
Asake leads the rankings, ahead of several other global stars, cementing his reputation as a defining figure of his generation.
Wizkid follows in second place, with his celebrated career continuing to reach new milestones in the streaming age.
Street pop sensation Seyi Vibez claims third position, driven by his relentless output of projects and a consistent run of hit singles that have established him as a powerful force in the digital space.
Burna Boy’s worldwide achievements are reflected domestically as well, with the artist ranking fourth in the history of Spotify Nigeria.
Davido completes the top five, having dropped two well-received projects and a string of hit records since 2021.
How Asake Rose to Become Nigeria’s Streaming King
Asake burst onto the Nigerian mainstream in January 2022 with his hit single ‘Omo Ope,’ featuring Olamide Baddo, who signed him to his label YBNL.
The track was an immediate smash, catapulting him to national fame — though few could have predicted the profound impact he would go on to have on the country’s music scene.

Armed with a distinctive artistic style that blended fuji-influenced melodies with high-energy rap flows, Asake forged a powerful creative partnership with producer Magicsticks, whose inventive incorporation of Amapiano log drums gave rise to a sound that reshaped Nigerian mainstream pop music.
His debut EP was a resounding success, and he kept the momentum going with the singles ‘Pallazo’ featuring Spinall, ‘PBUY,’ and ‘Terminator,’ all building toward his debut album ‘Mr Money With Vibe,’ released in December 2022. The project didn’t just announce his arrival — it signaled his takeover as Afrobeats’ premier hitmaker. Packed with hits, the album has since surpassed 800 million streams on Spotify.

A year on, he returned with his sophomore effort ‘Work of Art,’ which proved equally successful right out of the gate, powered by standout tracks including ‘Remember,’ ‘2:30,’ ‘Basquiat,’ and ‘Lonely At The Top’ — the most-streamed song in Nigerian Spotify history.
With his fanbase firmly in his grip and his vibrant Amapiano-infused sound continuing to shape the musical landscape, Asake completed a hat-trick of albums in as many years with the 2024 release of ‘Lungu Boy.’ While it may not have matched the commercial peaks of its predecessors, the project has still racked up nearly 500 million Spotify streams.
Since 2022, Asake has ended each year as TurnTable Chart’s most-streamed artist in Nigeria, with his albums maintaining a consistent presence at the top of streaming platforms.
Spotify’s five-year journey in Nigeria mirrors the broader story of Nigerian music’s growth — fueled by era-defining artists, rising digital consumption, and an expanding market that is steadily making its presence felt on the world stage.
