Gunmen Kidnap Six Church Members In Ondo State

A number of worshippers in Ondo State have been targeted in kidnap attacks.

Six worshippers have been kidnapped by gunmen from a Celestial Church located along the Owo–Akure Expressway in Uso, within the Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Those present at the scene reported that the armed assailants stormed the church during an evening service, sending the congregation into a state of fear before seizing several members and fleeing with them.

DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the Ondo State Police Command spokesperson, confirmed the incident in an official statement, noting that it took place in the early morning hours of Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at around 12:50 am.

Jimoh stated that the abducted individuals were taken to a destination that remains unknown.

“Upon receiving the report, the operatives of the command, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups, immediately mobilised to the scene and commenced coordinated rescue operations,” the statement read.

“As a result of sustained joint efforts, one of the kidnapped victims has been successfully rescued.

“Additionally, one suspected informant linked to the incident has been arrested and is currently assisting with ongoing investigations.

“Security operations are ongoing to ensure the safe rescue of the remaining victims and the apprehension of all perpetrators involved.”

Jimoh further called on residents to stay calm and alert, and to support security agencies by sharing any relevant and reliable information that could aid the continuing rescue efforts.
