The US Secret Service confirmed the shooting.
The White House was placed on temporary lockdown Monday afternoon following a shooting incident in the vicinity of the Washington Monument.
The U.S. Secret Service confirmed the incident through an official statement published on its X account, revealing that one of its officers was involved in the shooting.
“U.S. Secret Service personnel are on the scene of an officer-involved shooting at 15th Street and Independence Avenue in Washington, D.C,” the Secret Service said.
According to the agency, the situation arose from a direct encounter between a law enforcement officer and an armed civilian.

The Secret Service explained that “The incident resulted from a confrontation between an armed individual and Secret Service Police.”
One person was reported to have been shot by law enforcement during the incident, though authorities had yet to confirm the individual’s condition at the time of the statement.
Members of the public were urged to steer clear of the surrounding area as emergency response teams were deployed to the scene.
Warning the public to avoid the area, the Secret Service said “One individual was shot by law enforcement; their condition is currently unknown. Please avoid the area as emergency crews are responding.”
The shooting triggered a brief security lockdown at the White House, one of the most heavily protected locations in the United States.
No further details regarding the identity of the armed individual or the circumstances that led to the confrontation have been made public, as the incident remained under active investigation by responding agencies.
