Bucci Franklin won the Best Supporting Actor category at the 12th AMVCA/Photo: Africa Magic
The curtains came down on the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards on Saturday night in Lagos, as actors, filmmakers, and digital creators from across the continent were honoured for their exceptional contributions to the entertainment industry.
Held at the prestigious Eko Hotel and Suites, the ceremony drew top names from African film and television, with guests converging to celebrate excellence in storytelling, acting, directing, and content production.
The event once again underscored the rising global footprint of African cinema and entertainment.
Awards were presented across a wide range of categories, recognising standout performances, production quality, direction, scriptwriting, and innovative digital content creation.
The night’s most remarkable individual feat belonged to Linda Ejiofor, who made history by walking away with two honours — Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress — in the same evening.
Uzor Arukwe claimed the Best Lead Actor prize for his performance in Colours of Fire, directed by Niyi Akinmolayan, a film that also took home Best Costume Design.
Bucci Franklin was recognised in the Best Supporting Actor category for his role in To Kill a Monkey.
When it came to overall film dominance, My Father’s Shadow emerged as the night’s biggest winner, amassing five awards — Best Movie, Best Director, Best Writing in a Movie, Best Score/Music, and Best Sound/Sound Design.
To Kill a Monkey and Colours of Fire tied for second place with three wins apiece; To Kill a Monkey claimed Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and Best Supporting Actor, while Colours of Fire took Best Costume Design, Best Art Direction, and Best Lead Actor.
