Popular Canadian singer, The Weekend, has announced plans to boycott the Grammys henceforth after he was snubbed for this year’s (2021) edition. The Grammy awards have been accused in years of being bias against women and artists that are black, alongside criticisms owing to its opaque voting system which is believed to be unfair and unrealistic.
Notable artists such as Drake, Kanye West, and Frank Ocean, have in the past spoken out against the Grammys racial bias, but this year’s snub of The Weekend is the highest talking point owing to the fact that his mega-hit track ”Blinding Lights” broke chart records but was ignored by organizers.
In a statement released to the New York Times, the Canadian revealed that he will be boycotting the awards henceforth.
Because of the secret committees, I will no longer allow my label to submit my music to the Grammys

Reacting to The Weekend’s action, the academy’s interim chief executive, Harvey Mason, who is also a producer and songwriter, noted that the organization constantly strives to improve and expressed disappointment when any artist is upset.
We’re all disappointed when anyone is upset. But I will say that we are constantly evolving. And this year, as in past years, we are going to take a hard look at how to improve our awards process, including the nomination review committees
