Nigerian politician, Aisha Jummai Al-Hassan, popularly known as Mama Taraba has died at the age of 61. The former Nigerian Minister of Women Affairs died on Friday, May 7, 2021, in an Egyptian hospital in Cairo. It will be recalled that in April, 2019, Mama Taraba underwent a knee surgery in Dubai.
The deceased previously served as a senator representing Taraba North senatorial district before vying in the gubernatorial elections in 2015. Following her defeat in the re-run on April 25, 2015, she would be declared winner of the April 11, 2015 after the tribunal removed Governor Darius Ishaku. However, the decision of the Appeal and Supreme Courts to reverse the outcome at the tribunal meant that Mama Taraba did not become governor of Taraba state.
