FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are set to square-off in what could be the La Liga title decider on Saturday, May 8, 2021, but the Catalan Giants are set to pay special tribute to their former striker, Luis Suarez.
Suarez was offloaded by Barcelona in an unfashionable manner last summer. Following Barcelona’s 8-2 defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League, the Josep Bartomeu led board set out on a new project and put up a number of senior players for sale including Suarez.
The Uruguayan during his farewell speech was very emotional and was unable to reveal all the details regarding his switch to Atletico. Contrary to what critics think, Suarez has shown that his goal scoring prowess is still intact despite his age. Suarez has scored 19 league goals so far this season and has helped Atletico remain top of the league table in quest for the title.
Barcelona’s newly elected President, Joan Laporta, have decided to acknowledge the services of Suarez who is undoubtedly a club legend before the start of today’s game.
