The former Chelsea FC man will be looking to revive his career soon after his contract with the Kuwaiti club was terminated in just four months, the shortest stint in his professional career.
Kuwaiti club Al-Kuwait SC have terminated the contract of former Nigerian national team capitain Mikel Obi. The former Chelsea FC of England star who joined the club after severing ties with English Championship side Stoke City during the summer, spent just four months with the Asian football giants before his contract was terminated.
An official tweet from the club which said: “Termination of the contract of the Nigerian John Mikel Obi,’’ confirmed the exit of the UEFA Champions League winner from the club.
Mikel, 34, has travelled through parts of Asia and Europe since his departure from Chelsea in 2016, a club he won the Champions League, Europa League, two English Premier League titles, three FA Cup titles, and more.
Stints with Tianjin TEDA (China), Middlesbrough (England), Trabzonspor (Turkey), Stoke City (England), and Al-Kuwait SC have seen the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner take an adventurous lifestyle since his departure from Stamford Bridge.
It remains to be seen if Mikel will look elsewhere or call time on his club career like he did his international career in 2019.
