The ‘joro’ crooner has had a remarkable year in the global entertainment industry.
Superstar musician Wizkid added another award to his collection on Sunday after emerging the Best African Act at the MTV European Music Awards (EMAs) held at the László Papp Budapest Sports Arena in Budapest, Hungary.
The event which was hosted in Hungary for the first time saw Starboy become the sixth Nigerian artist to win the prize and also the seventh time a Nigerian act is grabbing the award after D’Banj won it twice (2007 and 2012).
Wizkid competed with other African acts such as Tems (Nigeria), Focalistic (South Africa), Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania), and Amaarae (Ghana) for the prize.
While accepting the award, Wizkid in a virtual speech said: “I just want to say a big thank you to the EMAs for the award. I’ll also like to say a big thank you to my fans. Thank you for supporting Wizkid, thank you for supporting Starboy, thank you for supporting big Wiz. Africa to the world.’’
Starboy’s MTV EMAs win marks off an impressive year which has seen the global success of his Made in Lagos album, and a global smash hit ‘Essence’ which featured Tems.
