ICJ Set To Deliver Ruling On South Africa’s Genocidal Case Against Israel

The International Court of Justice is set to rule on South Africa’s case accusing Israel of genocide today, Friday, January 26, 2024.

Since Palestinian organization Hamas attacked Israel and took hostages on October 7, 2023, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, backed by his cabinet and even the opposition, has carried out a series of unending airstrikes on Gaza, killing thousands, including women and children.

Netanyahu has insisted that a ceasefire will only happen if Hamas returns Israeli hostages.

South Africa has made its stance against Israel known and accused the country of carrying out genocide against the Palestinian people.

Speaking ahead of Friday’s ruling, South Africa’s Foreign Minister, Naledi Mandisa Pandor, said:

“Today, I think, the Palestinian issue is front and centre of the world. And that is a very important achievement through this case brought by South Africa.”

A temporary ceasefire saw Hamas release 110 out of a total of 240 Israeli hostages, but Israel says 132 hostages are yet to be accounted for, alleging that 25 of the hostages have been killed.

The conflict in Gaza has strained Israeli and South African relations as both countries head to the Hague for a ruling.

While the world awaits the ruling of the Hague, reports in the United States say CIA director William Burns is set to meet the representatives of Israel, Egypt, and Qatar in Europe to discuss a potential ceasefire deal.
