Ayra Starr Enters A New Era With Third Studio Album ‘Starrgirl’

The 16-track project arrives two years after her acclaimed sophomore album, The Year I Turned 21, and continues the singer’s evolution from rising Mavin Records star to one of Africa’s most recognisable global music exports.

Released through Mavin Global Holdings under exclusive licence to Republic Records, Starrgirl runs for about 46 minutes and blends Afrobeats with pop, R&B and dance-driven sounds.

The album is packed with high-profile collaborations. Wizkid appears on “Gimme Dat,” while Rema joins Starr on “Who’s Dat Girl.”

British singer kwn features on “Amazing,” Leon Thomas appears on “Pressure,” and French artist Theodora lends her voice to “Ms. Paper.”

One of the project’s standout international collaborations is “Heaven Baby,” a stripped-back, piano-led duet with British pop star ZAYN.

Colombian singer Danny Ocean also appears on the remix of “Hot Body.”

Several songs had already given listeners a taste of the album before its release, including “Tornado,” “Hot Body,” “Where Do We Go,” “Gimme Dat” and “Who’s Dat Girl.”

Other tracks such as “Letter to God,” “Misunderstood,” “Dance” and “Midnight in New York” further showcase Starr’s expanding musical range.

Starrgirl also reflects a more confident and experimental Ayra Starr.

In the months leading up to the release, the Grammy-nominated singer spoke about wanting to have more fun with music, try different sounds and create from her personal experiences.

The new album follows 19 & Dangerous, released in 2021, and The Year I Turned 21, released in 2024.
