Following the official confirmation of Joe Biden as US President-elect on Monday, December 14, 2020, Russian President, Vladimir Putin has finally accepted a Biden/Harris presidency after congratulating Biden on Tuesday, December 15. Putin’s message comes six weeks after the polls. It will be recalled that China and Russia initially refused to congratulate Biden after he was projected by the media as the winner of the November 3 presidential elections.
Putin had insisted on waiting for an official confirmation of the elections result following claims from President Donald Trump that the elections had been rigged. A Kremlin readout on Tuesday, noted:
Vladimir Putin wished the President-elect every success and expressed confidence that Russia and the United States, which bear special responsibility for global security and stability, despite their differences can truly contribute to solving many problems and challenges that the world is currently facing…Russian-American cooperation based on the principles of equality and mutual respect would meet the interests of people in both countries as well as the entire international community. For my part, I am ready for cooperation and contacts with you
