Former Super Eagles of Nigeria captain, John Mikel Obi, has extended his contract at English Championship side, Stoke City. Mikel’s contract status was made public in an official statement on the club’s website: ‘’ Contract extensions have been activated to retain the services of defender James Chester and midfielder John Obi Mikel.’’
Mikel, 34, joined the Potters last summer from Turkish Super Lig side, Trabzonspor, and has flourished in the middle of the park, leading the team on numerous occasions.
In the just concluded season (2020/2021), Mikel played 41 games for Stoke, making the club’s management to trigger the one-year extension on his contract.
