Mikel believes athletes must be responsible for what they consume to maintain anti-doping standards.
Mikel Obi has revealed that he was offered performance-enhancing drugs during his playing days but turned them down.
The former Chelsea FC midfielder made the disclosure during an episode of the Obi One Podcast while commenting on Mykhailo Mudryk’s provisional suspension after failing a drug test.
Mudryk said he had “not done anything wrong,” while reacting to his suspension as the FA continues its investigation into the issue.
“For him (Mudryk) and his family, I hope he is innocent,” Mikel said.
“I remember when we were playing, if someone was offering me something, I would ask you what it was.
“I’m responsible for what I put in my body, what I eat, and stuff like that.
“People around will offer you stuff—friends, friends of friends—they will tell you that this will give you this or it will give you one or two more percent in your performances, and I’m like, What is this? Is this legal?
“I tell them to go away; I don’t want to talk about it.
“We have to take responsibility for our actions and what we eat.”
However, Mikel insisted that “Mudryk is innocent until proven guilty.”

High-profile football stars such as Andre Onana, Paul Pogba, and a few others have suffered football bans due to failure to comply with anti-doping rules in the past.
If Mudryk is found guilty, he is likely to be banned for more than a year, which will greatly affect his career as he is currently struggling at Chelsea.
