Burkina Faso achieved significant progress in security and agriculture.
On December 31, Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim TraorĂ©, gave an optimistic year-end speech emphasizing significant security advancements and the nation’s attainment of food self-sufficiency, while outlining bold objectives for 2026.
During his customary New Year’s address, TraorĂ© highlighted the effectiveness of Operation Lalmassga (“Ice Wall”), which allowed Burkinabe military forces to retake numerous communities that had been under terrorist control, especially in the NakambĂ© region, near Kompienga Dam, Namungu in Gulmu, and Namsiguia around Djibo and ToulfĂ©.
He pledged ongoing military operations extending to the country’s borders and commended both the military and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) for their contributions to recovering territory.
Regarding humanitarian matters, Traoré reported that thousands of internally displaced individuals have returned to secured regions, where they have received assistance to resume farming activities and access recently constructed infrastructure.

Burkina Faso’s agricultural sector emerged as a significant accomplishment, with TraorĂ© declaring that Burkina Faso achieved food self-sufficiency in 2025, resulting from successful campaigns, enhanced seeds, subsidies, and mechanization.
The 2026 agenda includes additional land cultivation, water conservation initiatives, aquaculture development, and fodder crop cultivation.
The president also addressed mining, education, and healthcare, highlighting governmental efforts to reassert authority over mineral assets, broaden technical and vocational training, and reinforce medical facilities.
Infrastructure advancement will progress with additional road construction teams and a transition toward vertical urban development.
TraorĂ© reaffirmed Burkina Faso’s independent foreign policy stance, expressing openness to partners who honor national sovereignty while declining external interference.
He ended with an appeal to national principles—integrity, dignity, and patriotism—encouraging citizens to support a transformed, corruption-free Burkina Faso dedicated to national advancement.
