Superstar singer Burna Boy and Colombian icon Shakira have united for the official anthem of the FIFA 2026 World Cup, a collaboration that signals just how far Afrobeats has travelled on the world stage.
Burna Boy and Colombian pop sensation Shakira have come together to record the official anthem for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The track, titled Dai Dai, is set for release on May 14 and is expected to build excitement ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by Mexico, the United States of America, and Canada.
Grammy-winning global superstar Shakira broke the news on her social media platforms, announcing the single featuring Burna Boy to the delight of fans who have been eagerly awaiting the collaboration.
The song will serve as the official anthem for the world’s biggest football tournament.
The announcement marks a significant milestone for the Afro-fusion star, as he becomes the second Nigerian artist to be featured on a FIFA World Cup anthem, joining Afrobeats star Davido, who appeared on the official FIFA 2022 World Cup anthem Hayya Hayya (Better Together) alongside American singer Trinidad Cardona and Qatari pop star AISHA.

Shakira remains one of the most dominant forces in global music, with her albums selling tens of millions of copies and her hit songs racking up billions of streams.
Dai Dai, performed in a blend of English and Spanish, will mark her second appearance on a FIFA World Cup anthem, having previously recorded the iconic Waka Waka for the 2010 World Cup held in South Africa.
The 2026 tournament promises to be a historic edition, as it will be the first FIFA World Cup to feature 48 competing nations.
It will also make history as the first World Cup to include a halftime show.
Nigerian superstars have consistently shone at major football events, and with Burna Boy now on the official anthem, expectations are high that he will take the stage at the tournament’s final match.
Grammy-winning Nigerian star Tems performed at the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup in 2025, while Davido graced the closing ceremony of the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar.
Burna Boy himself performed at the 2023 UEFA Champions League final in Istanbul, a run of high-profile appearances that underlines Afrobeats’ growing dominance on the global entertainment stage.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to run from June 19 to July 11, with the tournament’s opening match set to be a rematch between Mexico and South Africa, a nostalgic replay of the fixture that kicked off the 2010 World Cup.
While Nigeria’s Super Eagles will not be in attendance, Afrobeats is clearly primed to make a bold and lasting impression on the world stage.
