Arsenal became champions for the first time in 22 years on Tuesday night
Arsenal’s 22-year wait for the title ended on Tuesday night after Man City’s draw against Bournemouth.
The agony is over. Arsenal Football Club are Premier League champions for the first time since 2004, as Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw at Bournemouth on Tuesday, May 19, handing the Gunners an unassailable four-point lead at the top of the table with one game remaining.
City needed a win to narrow the gap to two points and take the title race to the final day, but a 39th-minute goal from Bournemouth’s Junior Kroupi put them behind, and Erling Haaland’s stoppage-time equaliser came too late to force the winner Pep Guardiola’s side desperately needed.
The full-time whistle provoked wild celebrations outside Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium, as fans flooded the streets of north London to savour a moment that has been 22 years in the making.
For manager Mikel Arteta, the title is the crowning reward for years of relentless work.

Arteta, who took charge in 2019, becomes the first former Premier League player to win the title as a manager, a particularly poignant achievement after finishing runner-up three years in a row, watching Guardiola’s City chase down Arsenal’s leads to claim the crown in back-to-back seasons in 2023 and 2024.
Arsenal’s march to the title was defined by tactical discipline and an unprecedented efficiency from set-pieces, with the Gunners breaking records by scoring their 18th Premier League goal from a corner routine this season.
And the glory may not stop here. Arteta’s side have also reached the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain on May 30 and will look to become European champions for the first time, potentially capping the greatest season in the club’s history.
