During the 2017 EPL title-winning campaign, Diego Costa served as Conte’s primary striker at Chelsea, but their relationship deteriorated following a controversial text message.
In an appearance on the Obi One Podcast with former Chelsea and Nigerian national team player Mikel Obi, Diego Costa reflected on his Chelsea career.
The Spanish forward’s surprise exit from Chelsea occurred mere weeks following their 2017 league championship, with media accounts revealing that manager Antonio Conte informed Costa through text that his services were no longer required at Stamford Bridge.

When discussing his relationship with the Italian manager, Costa said:
“Conte is okay as a professional coach, but as a person, he is the worst thing that you can have on a daily basis.”
“He is very bad.
“He is a person who doesn’t trust others. He thinks that he knows everything.
“You don’t enjoy training with him. He is always angry, always with a long face.
“Probably, he doesn’t have sex at home because he is a very bitter guy.”
Costa went on to reveal that it was “a shame because I was very happy in Chelsea, but I did not want to cause a problem to the club because if I come back, the players wanted me to come back, but nobody likes him, that is why he didn’t last long.”
“The past is the past, it’s a shame,” Costa continued.
“The titles he won at Chelsea, he won them with me for his bad luck.
“So, I wish him all the best in life and that’s it.”
Now 37 years old, Costa maintains he hasn’t officially retired but is seeking the right “motivation” for his next opportunity.
He mentioned that his final decision will come by the close of 2026.
