Nigeria Besieged By Terror While Tinubu, APC Focused On Stealing Power In 2027— Obi

Labour Party’s former presidential candidate Peter Obi has once more levelled accusations against President Bola Tinubu and Nigeria’s broader leadership, claiming they have remained conspicuously quiet as violent extremists continue to kill both military personnel and ordinary citizens nationwide.

Speaking through an official statement released on Monday, Obi drew attention to a recent deadly attack in Borno State’s Ngoshe community, where militants overwhelmed and killed Nigerian soldiers, murdered civilians, and kidnapped over 100 women and children.

He expressed alarm at the deteriorating security situation, saying: “Our nation is clearly under siege, and the scale of insecurity is becoming unbearable, spreading widely all over the country,” Obi lamented.

“This week alone in Borno State’s Ngoshe community, terrorists overpowered soldiers, killing them and several citizens, while abducting more than 100 women and children, yet our leaders are silent.”

Obi went on to criticise the political establishment for directing its energy toward electoral scheming rather than addressing the ongoing bloodshed.

“The primary responsibility of any government is to secure the lives and property of its citizens,” the former Anambra State governor said.

“Yet, the response from the government in power to all the incidents has been dead SILENCE, as if Nigerian lives no longer matter.

“The ruling class are instead devastatingly more preoccupied with how to snatch, grab, and run away with the next election.”

Obi also highlighted a pattern of violence and displacement spreading across multiple states.

He noted that soldiers’ ultimate sacrifices were met with public indifference from those in power, while terrorists tightened their grip on farming communities and forests in states such as Benue, Nasarawa, and Kogi, driving entire villages from their homes.

Underscoring the human toll, he pointed out that: “In Nasarawa’s Kadarko area alone, 14,318 civilians are now registered as internally displaced persons.”
