Obasanjo and Atiku pictured together
ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has taken a swipe at former President Olusegun Obasanjo, dismissing his political influence ahead of the 2027 elections.
Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has stated that former President Olusegun Obasanjo carries no political or electoral weight.
The two have had a strained relationship since leaving office in 2007, after serving together as President and Vice President for two terms spanning eight years.

Atiku previously explained that his opposition to Obasanjo‘s attempt at a third term was rooted in protecting Nigeria’s Constitution and democratic process, not in any personal grudge.
“In 1999, he could not even win his own state or the Southwest; it was Arewa that made him President. He possesses no electoral value,” Atiku said.
On the subject of the 2027 general elections, Atiku noted that during his time as Vice President, he created pathways for numerous young Nigerians to take up government roles.
He pointed out that several of those individuals now serve as governors, ministers, directors, and in other key positions, and said that if elected President, he would continue to open doors for young Nigerians to serve and take on leadership roles.
