Despite efforts by the Nigerian government to silence the voice of the people through the use of force as seen in the Lekki toll gate massacre of October 20, 2020, Nigerians have remained strong in their resolve to fight police brutality and bad governance. The hashtag #OccupyLekkiTollGate is currently trending on Twitter owing to the fact that the government has given the Lekki Concession Company (LCC) the nod to reopen the toll gate on Saturday, February 13, 2021.
It will be recalled that a Justice Doris Okwuobi-led Judicial panel in Lagos state on Saturday, February 6, granted permission to LCC to take over the Lekki tollgates which had been shutdown since the Nigerian army and police under the orders of the government shot live bullets at peaceful protesters at the scene on October 20, 2020, killing and injuring people.
DJ Switch who has been in hiding since her live Instagram coverage of the shootings at the toll gate on October 20 made the headlines, openly condemned the reopening of the toll gates because victims have not been served justice
Popular Nigerian singer, Peter Okoye, alongside Nigerian revolutionary, Omoyele Sowore, and other Nigerians have trooped to Twitter to campaign for another protest at the toll gate on February 13, 2021 with the hashtag #OccupyLekkiTollGate.
