Airtel plans to feed 5000 IDPs in Borno state.
The Borno State Government has disallowed distribution of food and non-food substances in resettled neighborhoods across the state. This restriction is meant to bolster determination among residents towards eradicating poverty in their communities.
Governor Babagana Zulum in a letter dated December 9, 2022 and addressed to all humanitarian and development partners including the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) said that his government is committed to shutting down IDP camps by the end of the year.
“To this end, the State Government has committed to closing all official Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in Maiduguri by December, 2021.”
Zulum also revealed that the motive is to strengthen the people towards building and rehabilitating resettled communities. The governor declared that relief materials dispersion would only be authorized in official IDP camps and host-communities for now.
In another light, telecommunications giant, Airtel Nigeria, has disclosed plans to feed 5,000 Internally-Displaced Persons across five different camps under its yearly Christmas programme, ‘Airtel 5 Days of Love.’
Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Airtel Nigeria, Surendran Chemmenkotil, stated this in a virtual press conference held on Thursday December 9, 2021, where he said that the gesture is symbolic as it occurs simultaneously with the company’s 20th anniversary in Nigeria.
