Tems Didn’t Know About Music Genres Early Enough

Superstar singer Tems have been making global waves for her exceptional sounds in recent years, but what the world doesn’t know is that her music flows naturally and cannot be hinged on a genre.

Tems, 28, told Billboard on the sidelines of the Billboard Women in Music 2024 that her music stems from just being her and doing songs regardless of the genre. 

“It’s just who I am. I didn’t actually know about genre on time to know that I wasn’t doing a genre,” she said when quizzed about her kind of music.

Another interesting thing to know about the singer is that she is not overwhelmed by the pressure that accompanies stardom.

Tems says she handles the attention by just “staying true” to herself. 

“I think you show up as yourself every single time. Just be like, ‘You know it is what it is’. I love myself, you know, and I am just going to be me,” the Essence crooner said. 

“So I think it’s just really been staying true to what comes to you naturally, loving everything that you do, and being free to do whatever.”

Tems is one of the biggest singers on the globe at the moment. Despite not releasing an album yet, she has won a Grammy Award.

The Nigerian singer has collaborated with other top global acts such as Wizkid, Future, and a few more.
