Following the exit of Lionel Messi from Barcelona, the Spanish club’s fans have not hidden their displeasure and things took another turn on Friday, August 6, 2021, as the players arrived for training at the club’s Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper training ground.
Antoine Griezmann was the target of fans who abused and jeered him when he arrived the training base with one fan heard yelling “Messi has left because of you.”
The financial situation at Barca is believed to be the major reason behind Messi’s departure and fans blame the Frenchman because he was expected to leave to make way for Messi’s new contract.
Despite reports linking the 2018 World Cup winner with a return to Atletico Madrid, Griezmann chose to remain at Barca, adding to the club’s financial woes that have made it impossible to give Messi a new contract.
Barca have explained that La Liga’s regulation is responsible for Messi’s departure, but fans are unhappy about the situation at Camp Nou.
