The Nigerian musician will make history if he wins both awards category at the Microsoft Theatre.
Superstar musician Wizkid has bagged double nominations for the 64th Grammy Awards set to hold by January 31, 2022 at the Microsoft Theater. The Recording Academy made public their nominations for the 86 categories of the 2022 Grammys on Tuesday, November 23, and the ‘Joro’ crooner earned nominations for the Best Global Music Performance and the Best Global Music Album categories.
Wizkid’s hit collaboration with fellow Nigerian singer Tems, ‘Essence’ bagged him a nomination for the Best Global Music Performance, while his tour-successful ‘Made in Lagos’ album saw him nominated for the Best Global Music Album, a category his friend and Nigerian singer Burna Boy won in 2020.
It will be recalled that in 2020, Wizkid’s collaboration with Beyonce ‘Brown Skin Girl’ off the songstress’ ‘The Lion King Album’ in 2019, won a Grammy.
However, there has been debates surrounding if Wizkid was eligible to be called a Grammy Award winner, but a win in the 2022 event at the Microsoft Theatre would end all arguments for one of the biggest African acts.
The 2022 edition of the Grammy Awards will holds amidst pomp and glee on the popular CBS Television Network, and will be streamed live and on-demand on Paramount.
