Tems has joined the list of high profile Nigerian stars to have won the global award.
Afrobeats star Temilade Openiyi popular with the stage name Tems emerged winner of the Best International Act award at the BET Awards on Sunday, June 26, 2022. The event which held at the Microsoft Theatre, Los Angeles, USA, saw the Nigerian music star beat fellow Nigerian act Fireboy, UK artist Dave, Dinos (France), Congolese Fally Ipupa, Major League Cjz (South Africa), Tayc (France), Ludmilla (Brazil), and Little Simz from the UK to win the award.
An excited Tems in her speech dedicated the award to women around the globe.
“Thank you so much for this, thank you so much. It’s an honour… I mean, this is my first award show that I’m winning something and I just want to use this as an opportunity to speak to every single young, old, whatever, every single woman watching this, every single girl watching this at home. Where I’m from, things like this don’t happen,” the Crazy Tingz crooner said.
The BET Awards is an annual event aimed at celebrating and honouring Black excellence in entertainment, sports, and various fields.
