The Nigerian midfielder has been impressive for the Frank Lampard tutored side this season.
Super Eagles of Nigeria midfielder, Alex Iwobi, has been nominated for the English Premier League Player of the Month award for September, 2022. A string of decent performances has seen the former Arsenal FC star earn praises from fans of Everton as some has nicknamed him “Iwobidinho,’’ likening him to Brazilian football legend, Ronaldinho.
The Nigerian national team star was nominated for the award won by Erling Haaland in August, alongside five other stars, Kevin de Bruyne (Man City), Marcus Rashford (Manchester United), Pierre-Emile Hojberg (Tottenham Hotspur), Philip Billing (Bournemouth), and Jacob Ramsey (Aston Villa), for their “outstanding performances’’ in September.
Iwobi has flourished under the tutelage of Frank Lampard in Everton as he now plays from an unfamiliar central midfield role. The Premier League in a statement said:
“Iwobi has caught the eye in a new, deeper central-midfield position, helping Everton hold Liverpool to a goalless draw before setting up a goal against West Ham that gave the Toffees their first win of 2022/23.’’
Iwobi is currently in the Nigerian national team camp for the September international break and is expected to feature in a friendly against Algeria on September 27.
