China and Russia are strong allies, and both have a strained relationship with the US.
Intelligence officials in the United States have said that China and Russia are planning a joint invasion of Taiwan.
On Thursday, May 2, 2024, the Director of the US National Intelligence, Avril Haines, told the US Congress that “We see China and Russia, for the first time, exercising together in relation to Taiwan and recognizing that this is a place where China definitely wants Russia to be working with them, and we see no reason why they wouldn’t.”
China has long claimed that Taiwan is its territory, and President Xi has threatened to forcefully annex the territory if necessary.

Lieutenant General Jeffrey Kruse echoed the warning of Haines as US-Chinese continues to hit a low.
Kruse warned that the US Defence Department has “become even more concerned about our joint force requirements in an environment where Russia and China would certainly be cooperative, and we need to take that into account.”
When the topic of the potential joint invasion of Taiwan by the Asian heavyweight and the European superpower was raised by Senator Mike Rounds during the meeting of the Senate Armed Services Committee, he asked about the plans of the Pentagon if the invasion eventually happened.
Haines hinged on the ‘increasing cooperation in the “no-limits” partnership’ between both countries.
