Comprehensive victory puts Nigeria at summit of Group B standings.
Nigeria’s Super Falcons launched their campaign for a historic 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations championship with a commanding 3-0 victory over Tunisia’s national women’s team.
The breakthrough came early when six-time CAF African Women’s Player of the Year Asisat Oshoala directed a well-placed header into the net just four minutes into the match, establishing Nigeria’s advantage.
While Nigeria controlled the tempo throughout the encounter, they had to exercise patience before extending their lead.

The second goal arrived in the 46th minute through Rinsola Babajide, who skillfully maneuvered past Tunisia’s defensive line to find the back of the net.
Following her goal, Babajide honored the late Portuguese footballer Diogo Jota by performing his signature celebration.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibate’s team pressed for additional goals, and their persistence paid off in the 84th minute when Ihezuo sealed the comprehensive victory with the third strike.
With this triumph, Nigeria maintains their position atop Group B, though their final standing depends on the upcoming match between Algeria and Botswana.
Nigeria enters this tournament as the most successful nation in WAFCON history, having claimed nine previous titles across the 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2016, and 2018 tournaments.
However, their path to a 10th championship faces significant challenges from formidable opponents including Zambia, South Africa, and tournament hosts Morocco, all of whom are considered serious title contenders.
For veteran striker Asisat Oshoala, this tournament represents a potential crowning achievement as she approaches the twilight of her distinguished international career, hoping to contribute to Nigeria’s historic 10th WAFCON triumph.
