Former Porn Star Amaranta Hank Wins Colombian Senate Seat After Campaign For Adult Stars’ Rights

Deyci Alejandra Omana Ortiz, known in adult entertainment as Amaranta Hank, was sworn in as a senator for the left-wing Historic Pact party during a ceremony in Bogotá on Monday, according to Colombian outlet La Opinión.

The 33-year-old began her career as a journalist before entering the adult film industry in 2017.

She stepped away from the industry two years later and shifted her focus to politics.

Ortiz won her seat in March, representing the Norte de Santander region, and is now pushing to secure social security protections for adult-content creators.

She argues that people working in the adult industry need legal protections to guard against exploitation by companies and agencies.

“These women have been unprotected by the state because, due to misinformation, prejudice and double standards, no one has declared to regulate it,” she said in a campaign video.

Ortiz has fired back at critics who believe former adult-industry figures shouldn’t seek public office.

“Why can’t a woman who was in the adult industry aspire to a popularly elected office?” she said, pointing to other former adult stars who went on to hold political office, including Ilona Staller, who first gained fame hosting the 1970s radio show “Voulez-vous coucher avec moi?” before becoming an Italian lawmaker.

“My experience allowed me to understand inequality, the struggle for freedom and the popular economy, arguments that I now promise to bring directly into legislative debate,” Ortiz said.

“The problem is that society consumes adult films but denies us the possibility of speaking in spaces of power.”

The Historic Pact, the party of Colombia’s outgoing president, Gustavo Petro, holds the most seats in the state senate, with 25 in total. Ortiz won her seat after placing 23rd on the party’s list of candidates.

“I feel embraced by my people,” she said following her election victory.

Beyond social security protections, Ortiz is also advocating for improved mental health care and pushing for measures aimed at preventing sexual abuse.

“There is a political transformation underway that still has a long way to go, but the important thing is that it has already begun in some way,” she said.
