Obi believes Tinubu lacks the capability to lead Nigeria toward growth
Peter Obi has renewed his call for President Tinubu to exit power early, describing him as too worn out to lead effectively.
Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential flag bearer, has urged President Bola Tinubu to step down before the 2027 elections, insisting the President is “tired” and has lost the capacity to confront Nigeria’s deepening economic and security troubles.
Appearing on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics program, hosted by Seun Okinbaloye, Obi contended that although Tinubu delivered strong results as governor of Lagos State, his tenure as President has fallen short in tackling the nation’s escalating problems.
“The Bola Tinubu that was governor is not the one that is president today. He’s tired. He should be allowed to retire in peace, and then go home,” Obi said.

The former Anambra State governor described Nigeria as being on the wrong track and stressed the need for a leader with the drive and dedication to turn the country’s fortunes around.
“As it is right now, Bola Tinubu is leading us nowhere. We will turn it so he can see it. That’s why maybe I’m calling for his retirement. The man should just step aside. Yes, he doesn’t have the capacity to do the job.”
