The executive committee of European football governing body, UEFA, is set to approve a new Champions League format that will see 36 teams participate in the competition from 2024 on Monday, April 19, 2021.
A decision on the new format was supposed to have been reached on March 31, but it was delayed owing to the demand of some clubs in the European Club Association (ECA) seeking to have a greater say as regards commercial matters. However, these issues were set aside rather than resolved during meetings of the ECA board and UEFA on Friday, April 16, paving the way for final approval on Monday.
