Big Wiz proud to represent Africa after being awarded by the global streaming platform.
Global music streaming giants Apple Music has announced popular Nigerian Afrobeat star Wizkid as the African Artiste of the Year.
Apple made its annual awards announcement on Monday November 29, 2021 and Canadian singer The Weekend came out top as the global Artist of the Year, while Aya Nakamura won the prize for French Artiste of the Year. H.E.R finished as the Songwriter of the year.
Apple hailed the Starboy as “one of Africa’s biggest crossover acts, having worked with Drake, Skepta, and Chris Brown, among others.”
Wizkid’s 2021 success also came at the fore as Apple praised him for “been the most streamed African artist on the continent on Apple Music and ranked on the Daily Top 100 charts in 60 countries, in addition to his monthly plays on Apple Music growing by more than 250 percent outside of Africa.’’
Wizkid will be hoping to win a Grammy Award on January 31, 2022 at the Microsoft Theatre where the 64th edition of the Awards will hold. The African music giant earned double nomination for the award.
