“I am still his boss’’- Eguaveon Clarifies Relationship With Jose Peseiro

Super Eagles of Nigeria interim coach, Austin Eguavoen, has shed some lights on his relationship with new national team coach Jose Peseiro. The former Super Eagles defender noted that he is still the boss of Peseiro by the virtue of the position he occupies in the Nigeria Football Federation.

When Eguaveon was quizzed about communicating with Peseiro, the former Gombe United coach said: “We are in touch, it is not a problem at all, and collaboration is very good.

“I am the technical director of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) by extension and right, I am his boss.”

The former head coach of Enyimba International, Aba, noted that the ongoing AFCON in Cameroon will assist Peseiro in settling down to do his job as the new head coach of the Super Eagles.  Eguaveon said he must assist the new Portuguese gaffer to settle down in his role and maintain a cordial relationship with him.

He told reporters: “Whatever we do here is to give him a soft landing and a platform to operate. We want to be in the World Cup so we have to make everything very comfortable and smooth for him.”

Eguavoen, 56, was appointed on an interim basis to lead the team to AFCON in Cameroon while Peseiro will take over from him at the end of the tournament as permanent successor to Gernot Rohr who was dismissed on December 12, 2021.

Peseiro, former Sporting Lisbon manager will be in Cameroon to watch the Super Eagles take on the Pharaohs of Egypt later today at the Stade Roumdé Adjia.

Before his appointment as the interim manager of the Super Eagles, Eguavoen had previously coached the team to a third-place finish at the 2006 AFCON edition in Egypt. His team lost by a lone goal in the semi-final to Ivory-Coast, with a Didier Drogba second-half strike.
