The parliament of the United Kingdom has revealed that it will debate on the likelihood of imposing sanctions against the Nigerian government for violation of human rights, following a petition signed by hundreds of thousands of Nigerians asking the parliament to look into the matter and take action.
Following the peaceful #EndSARS protests in the country which saw innocent protesters gunned down by the Nigerian army on the orders of the government on Tuesday, October 20, 2020, at the Lekki toll gate, Lagos State, Nigerians signed the online petition seeking the UK parliament to bring the Nigerian government and security agencies to book for violating human rights.
However, it is still not clear if the UK will fancy imposition of sanctions on President Buhari and his government owing to longstanding ties between both countries.
