Donald Trump Is The First US President To Stand Criminal Trial

Donald Trump became the first former President of the United States to stand trial for criminal charges after arriving at the Manhattan courthouse on Monday, April 15, 2024, as his hush money trial began.

The Republican Party candidate for the 2024 US Presidential Election is accused of falsifying business documents in an attempt to disguise a hush-money payment made to former pornographic actor Stormy Daniels before the 2016 presidential election that brought him to power.

It is alleged that Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen, made a $130,000 payment to the adult film star after the 2016 presidential election to ensure she hid her affair with Trump from the public.

The accusation says Trump later repaid Cohen in installments, which are now marked as legal fees in the company’s records.

Trump, who faces a maximum jail time of four years if found guilty, could still avoid jail and pay a fine instead.

He has repeatedly claimed that his several lawsuits are a political witch hunt and vowed to win in court.

“They want to take away my freedom because I would never let them take away your freedom; it’s very simple,” he said to a crowd during a rally.

“They want to silence me because I will never let them silence you.

“And I am the only one that can save this nation because, you know, they are not coming after me; they are coming after you, and I just happen to be standing in their way, and I will never be moved.”

Trump, 77, is facing a 34-count charge of business record falsification. He has denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty.
