Bola Tinubu, national leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to recruit 50 million youths into the army to tackle insecurity in the country.
He said this during his 69th birthday celebration in Kano State on Monday, March 29, 2021.
The political leader opined that since Nigeria has an increasing rate of banditry and robbery, recruiting 50 million youths into the army might just be a reasonable solution.
We are under-policed and we are competing with armed robbers and bandits to recruit from the youths who are unemployed —33 per cent unemployed? Recruit 50 million youths into the army, what they will eat —cassava, corn, yam, we grow here. Don’t talk about illiteracy, anybody who can hold a gun, who can handle a gun, who can cock and shoot is technically competent to repair a tractor in the farm
Bola Ahmed Tinubu
This submission has been met with some controversies, as critics questioned the population of the country where 50 million youths will be recruited into the army alone.
