The Islamic sect’s increasing activities cause for concern in North East Nigeria.
The Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) has abducted at least five officials of the Borno State Government.
The kidnapped persons, who were overseeing the construction of Chibok-Damboa road, were forcefully taken away in an area close to Wovi, a remote village in Chibok Local Government Area on Wednesday, December 1, 2021.
According to Daily Trust, one of the abducted personnel, a driver, escaped unscathed.
An official of the Borno State Government confirming the incident said, “Yes, it is so sad and we are worried about this latest developments.
“The abductions came as a shocker to us. I can confirm to you that they were abducted this morning.”
ISWAP has been consolidating its grip in locations around Lake Chad having increasing activities in the North East of Nigeria most especially in Borno State.
In November, the deadly sect abducted a 50-year-old man identified as Mohammed Askira, alongside his two brothers who belong to the royal family of Askira Uba Emirate of Borno State.
