Ex-Nigerian international, Yakubu Aiyegbeni, has stated that he owes Nigerians no apologies over his open goal miss in the 2010 World Cup Group B game between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and South Korea. Nigeria would have stood a great chance of qualifying from the Group if not for a 2-2 draw against the Asians in their last group game.
Reacting to the miss during a Live with Yak on NationTV interview on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, Yakubu Aiyegbeni revealed that he has made a lot of sacrifices and scored a lot of goals for Nigeria without apology from Nigerians, then why should he apologise for a single miss.
I won’t apologise at all. Why should I? I have scored so many goals for Nigeria too. I have sacrificed a lot for the country. Did anyone apologise to me? I cannot apologise because it wasn’t a deliberate miss. I seriously wanted to score. But it wasn’t to be. So many strikers have missed chances too and nobody will apologise so I won’t
