Amorim says Rashford must "train well" to play for United/Getty Images
Rashford was excluded from the Manchester derby, and the Portuguese tactician says he has to “train well” to earn the chance to compete.
Things are not professionally rosy between Manchester United’s new manager, Ruben Amorim, and Marcus Rashford.
Amorim left out Rashford and Garnacho from his squad to face Manchester City in the league on Sunday, and when quizzed on their exclusion from the team, the Portuguese tactician said it was his “selection, very simple.”
After United’s victory against City, Amorim said that if Rashford and Garnacho “train well, they will compete for a place in the team.”
The former Sporting manager also insisted that “it was not a disciplinary thing” but maintained that “we have to improve our standards inside and outside the pitch.”

There has been speculation surrounding the future of Rashford at Manchester United, and for the first time, the forward said he is “ready for a new challenge and for the next steps.”
Rashford said it was “disheartening to be left out of the derby,” but he has moved on from the disappointment.
The English star also said that when he leaves Manchester United, there will be “no hard feelings.”
When Amorim was asked about Rashford’s departure comments, he said that he wants “to help Marcus” and insisted that United is “better with Marcus.”
However, Amorim insisted that Rasford and Garnacho will only be selected for the club’s next game if “they train well.”
Marcus Rashford is likely to exit the English football giants during the 2025 summer transfer window as United is open to offers for the 27-year-old.
