The incident has been confirmed by the Nigerian police.
After the release of the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results by the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC), four students of Kuramo Senior College in Lekki, Lagos State, reportedly drowned at the Elegushi beach while celebrating their success.
Reports revealed that the students, who were between the ages of 14 and 16, were part of a group of ten students that went to the beach to celebrate.
The spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident in a tweet though the names of the deceased are yet to be released.
Popularly known as WAEC, the examination is an annual exercise conducted for students in their final year in secondary schools. It is part of requirements for admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
