Following the rumours surrounding the extension of the January 18, 2021, school resumption date in Nigeria, the Federal Government has noted that its decision to resume academic activities on January 18 stands. It will be recalled that the Nigerian Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, revealed last week that the government was reviewing the resumption date owing to the surge in positive cases of COVID-19.
In an official statement released by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Education, Ben Bem Goong, on Thursday, January 14, 2021, it was disclosed that the government has decided to stand with its decision of January 18 after a consensus was reached with Governors, Commissioners, and relevant stakeholders in the education sector. However, schools across the nation are expected to adhere strictly to COVID-19 safety protocols as Nigeria looks towards combating the second wave of the pandemic.
